Positive Negative Magazine

editorial design | art direction

Positive Negative Magazine is an annual publication created by senior graphic design and photography students at RIT. I was the Art Director for Volume 9 of Positive Negative Magazine. For this role, I was in charge of creating the overall vision of Volume 9, coordinating the staff and meetings, as well as offering suggestions to class members and keeping the project on schedule. I also worked on the concepts and designs for the cover and inside pages as well as designed three spreads. This project won a gold Addy Award for the student publication category in 2016 by the Rochester Advertising Federation.

Some names that are important to mention are our other art director Kyra Krenitsky; the design directors, Sam Watson and Nathan Gamson; our photo editors, Casey Franklin and Kallie Michelle Ferris, as well as Chelsea Clarke and Annie Wong from the production team, without whom this magazine wouldn't be possible.

The entire publication can be viewed at positivenegative.com

The cover was made with acrylic paint, with the concept being that the smooth top shape represents the positive and the smudged bottom of the shape represents the negative.
